Ravi Shastri Believes MS Dhoni’s ODI Career Is Over

MS Dhoni’s cricketing future has become one of the most talked-about topics lately. Talks about MS Dhoni’s retirement has become an everyday story. While there is no clarity over when will he return to action, the Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri has claimed that MS Dhoni “may end his ODI career soon.

Recently, in an interview, the Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri opened up about many things, including the speculations on MS Dhoni’s future. Ravi Shastri revealed that he recently had a conversation with MS Dhoni. He said:

“I have had a conversation with MS and that is between us. He has finished his Test career, he may soon end his ODI career… In all probability, he will finish one-day cricket,”

He said:

“People must respect that he’s played non-stop in all formats of the game for a while,”

Ravi Shastri said that in order to get back into the squad, MS Dhoni will have to perform well in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League, which means MS Dhoni will still be in contention for the upcoming T20 World Cup in October. He said:

At his age, probably the only format he’ll want to play is T20 cricket which means he’ll have to start playing again, get back into the groove because he’s going to play in the IPL and see how his body reacts,”

He added:

… So he will be left with T20, he will definitely play the IPL. One thing I know about Dhoni is that he will not impose himself on the team. But if he has a cracking IPL, well, then…,”

A few weeks earlier, in an interview, Ravi Shastri had left it on Dhoni to decide his availability after IPL. He said:

That guy is a legend. The last thing he will want is to impose himself on an Indian team, having known him. He is wanting to take a break but he is going to play the IPL,”

He added:

“The amount of sport he has played… if he puts himself in contention… if he feels after the IPL that ‘I am good enough to play for India’, don’t mess around with that”

On the other hand, there’s no confirmation about anything from MS Dhoni. The last time he was asked MS Dhoni has made it clear that he would not like to talk about it until January 2020.
