“It is shorter and more fun”, says West Indian all-rounder Andre Russel who will be seen leading Bangladesh Premier League franchise Rajshahi Royals in the seventh edition of the BCB organized tournament.
Andre Russel who is a familiar face in many t20 franchises worldwide compared the Big Bash League and Bangladesh Premier League in terms of the fun quotient in both. Russel who isn’t representing his country against India in the limited-overs series is ready to begin a new stint as the captain for Rajshahi Royals in the BPL. Everybody is excited to see this explosive batsman enjoy his form during this league and repeat his previous success.

Russel has already been a part of two title-winning campaigns in three years, with the Comilla Victorians in 2015-16 and Dhaka Dynamites in 2016-17. The Royals’ management will expect the dynamic all-rounder to emulate similar success this year.
After captaining the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League, Russel must know how to deal with constant pressure. However talking about his new role in the BPL Russel said, “I am honored to be given the responsibility of leading the team. Regardless, I always look at myself as a player in the heat. I have a very big role in any team I play for. It is going to be something new for me outside the Caribbean. I have led Jamaica Tallawahs before. It will be interesting and I am up for a challenge.”

Russel will also be supported by Shoaib Malik and Ravi Bopara this season, which must help him adapt soon. “I won’t say we have the best squad but we have a good team on paper. It is a good start for any captain, coach and any team. We want to use the experience of each player, which will put us in the right foot.”
“We have Shoaib Malik, myself, Ravi Bopara and (Hazratullah) Zazai and [Liton] Das at the top. We have a few good local talents. I have been watching videos, seeing what they can do. We have a balanced squad including local and international fast bowlers. We have good options,” Russell added.
The Rajshahi Royals begin their BPL season against Dhaka Platoon on December 12. All eyes will be on Andre Russel in a new avatar.
