Former Indian cricketer and world cup hero Gautam Gambhir hailed the brilliance of Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli. He feels that Virat’s ability to score runs all around the world is his expertise as a modern batting great.
Virat played a knock of 20 runs off 31 deliveries as he helped the Indian cricket team chase down the target of a 115-run fourth-inning goal with six wickets to spare in the 2nd Test against Australia in Delhi on Sunday.
With his knock, he also broke the record of former Indian opener Virender Sehwag at the Delhi Test match. Former Indian opener Sehwag has scored 1738 runs in BGT. Virat has now surpassed Sehwag’s run tally by scoring 64 runs in the second test match.
Besides this, Kohli once again scripted history as the former India skipper scored fasted 25000 International runs. Virat broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of the fastest 25000 International runs.
Before the Delhi match, Kohli needed only 52 runs to complete 25,000 runs in international runs. Kohli achieved this milestone at his home ground New Delhi, which made this feat more iconic for him. He became the fastest batter to reach this milestone in style after smashing a straight boundary on Nathan Lyon.
Gautam Gambhir Showered Praises On Virat Kohli
Meanwhile, during the post-game interview on Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir was asked about Virat surpassing the milestone of 25,000 international runs. Speaking about the same, Gambhir said:
“I don’t know about the list but the best part of Virat Kohli is that he has performed the same in India and in Australia, in South Africa. There will be an Australia or a South African in the list but you have to compare their numbers in the subcontinent as well. Kohli is a master of the 50-overs format but in Test cricket too he has scored 27 hundreds, and 28 fifties. He has centuries in England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies. What more can you achieve?”
He added: “Scoring 25 thousand runs is no joke. He has seen a lot of ups and downs but has remained consistent. Your game goes through a lot of changes. Your stance changes, your technique changes, your strengths and weaknesses change, your mode of dismissals become different, your emotions change and if you can factor in all of that, control all these things and score these many runs then you are a great,”
