Star all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has been in a red-hot form off-lately. On Thursday, R Ashwin added another feather to his already illustrious cap as he went past the World Cup winning skipper Kapil Dev to become the third-highest wicket-taker for team India in international cricket.
R Ashwin Broke Kapil Dev’s Big Record
On Day 2 of the ongoing third Test match, Ashwin surpassed Kapil Dev, who had 687 wickets in 448 innings for India. Ashwin had to wait a long time to get a bowl on Day 2 of the 3rd Test against Australia at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Thursday. However, Ashwin didn’t take long to get into the action.
Ashwin provided a much-needed breakthrough to India by breaking the stubborn stand between Peter Handscomb and Cameron Green to open the flood-gates for India on the second day as Australia lost their last six wickets for just 12 runs.
Ashwin dismissed Handscomb for his 1st wicket of the Test match, with Shreyas taking a stunning catch at short-leg. Handscomb’s wicket was also Ashwin’s 687th international wicket, drawing him level with the legendary Kapil Dev.
Kapil Dev had taken 687 wickets in 56 matches while Ashwin equaled the tally in just 269 games. Ashwin surpassed Kapil Dev with his 688th scalp in his 347th innings after trapping Alex Carey in front of the wickets for lbw.
