The Delhi Capitals got off to a flying start to their WPL 2023 campaign as their batters racked up a gigantic total of 223/2 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday’s encounter at the Brabourne Stadium.
It were the DC openers Shafali Verma and captain Meg Lanning who tore into the RCB bowling attack with their massive opening partnership of 162 runs in 14.3 overs.
The DC skipper Meg Lanning and her opening partner Shafali Verma put on a magnificent opening stand, and after both were dismissed in the 15th over, Marizanne Kapp and Jemimah Rodrigues continued to hammer the RCB bowlers, taking DC’s total to 223, which is the second highest total in Women’s T20 franchise history.
Shafali Verma, Meg Lanning made a partnership of 162 runs in 87 balls

Shafali Verma, the 19-year-old opener, scored 84 (45) with the help of 10 fours and 4 sixes, while Lanning, the Aussie captain and experienced batter, scored 72 (43) with the help of 14 fours. Shafali Verma brought up her fifty in 31 balls.

Of her 4 sixes, two came in a single over of off-spinner Asha Shobana. The second six seemed the biggest sixer of the WPL 2023 so far. To a loopy delivery from Asha, Shafali skipped down the pitch, got plenty of bat under the ball and smoked it way beyond the long-on boundary.
