Virat Kohli Creates History By Becoming 1st Batsman To Score 7000 Runs In IPL

Batting superstar Virat Kohli continues to dominate the world of cricket as he added another feather to his already glorious hat. Kohli etched his name in history books as he became the first batter to complete 7000 runs in the Indian Premier League.

Kohli achieved this special milestone in the league stage fixture of IPL 2023 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitely Stadium on Saturday (May 6). Interestingly, Kohli has a pavilion named after him at this venue and he achieved another honor at his home ground.

Virat Kohli Creates History In The IPL

Before the ongoing Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore game, Kohli was only 12 runs short of completing 7000 runs in the T20 league before the start of the DC fixture. He got off the mark with a boundary off Khaleel Ahmed and completed the 7000th run in the IPL with a stunning boundary off Axar Patel in the 2nd over.

Virat now has 7000* runs in 233 matches. He has an average of over 36 and a strike rate of more than 129. So far, his tally includes a total of 5 centuries, out of which 4 of them came in IPL 2016.

In IPL 2021, Kohli became the first batter to complete 6000 runs in the T20 league. In IPL 2019, he became the 2nd batter after Suresh Raina to score 5000 runs in IPL.

Meanwhile, Kohli is followed by Shikhar Dhawan on the list of batters with the most runs in the Indian Premier League. Dhawan has 6536 runs in 213 matches. Sitting at the third spot is David Warner with 6189 runs off 172 games.

Rohit Sharma has 6063 runs and is sitting at the 4th spot in this list. Suresh Raina, who became the first batter to complete 5000 runs in IPL history, is sitting at the 5th position in this list with 5528 runs. Raina has now retired from the T20 league.
