Former Indian cricketer and World Cup hero Gautam Gambhir is one of the most iconic names in Indian cricket history. He has been a part of many memorable and iconic cricketing moments of Indian cricket. He played a crucial role in India’s two World Cup wins, being the top scorer for India in both the finals of the T20 World Cup 2007 and the ODI World Cup 2011. While he tasted many ups with the Indian team, he has also faced a lot of downs in his career. But there was this one moment in his childhood that reduced him to tears.

Recently, in an interaction with Star Sports, Gambhir revealed how India’s arrow loss against Australia during the ODI World Cup 1992 edition is the only time that he has cried for cricket and he didn’t even shed a tear after that not even after lifting the 2011 World Cup. He revealed:

“I remember the watching the Australia World Cup when India lost the game to Australia by 1 run. I remember, that’s the only time I’ve cried for cricket, and I probably cried because India only lost that game by one run. After that, I’ve never cried, not even after winning the World Cup,”

Well, for the unversed, in the 1992 edition was one of the worst ODI World Cups for India in history as India crashed out of the round-robin stage and finished 7th in the tournament. The Men in Blue only won just 2 out of 8 games. India had lost to Australia by a narrow margin of just 1 run, and it is seeing this defeat that a young Gautam Gambhir cried:

In that game, Australia batted first and put on a total of 237/9. Dean Jones top scored with 90 off 108 balls. For India, Manoj Prabhakar and Kapil Dev picked three wickets each of India, in a game curtailed to 47 overs per side due to rain interruption.
