On Thursday, Team India’s iconic win in World Cup 2011 completed nine years and fans were thrilled with that cricket match being re-telecasted on television. However, a never-ending debate also took place on microblogging site Twitter regarding the performance of Gautam Gambhir and him not being awarded the man of the match award.

Even Gautam Gambhir took to his Twitter and wrote that the World Cup win of 2011 was not about just one winning shot from MS Dhoni. In his tweet, Gautam Gambhir slammed ‘ESPNcricinfo’ and asked them to smash their obsession with the ‘six’. He wrote:

“Just a reminder @ESPNcricinfo: #worldcup2011 was won by entire India, entire Indian team & all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX.”

Meanwhile, during a question and answers based interactive session on Twitter, where a Twitter user expressed that people would talk more about Gautam Gambhir’s match-winning performance more than the iconic picture of MS Dhoni. The Twitter user wrote:

“This picture is iconic, but wish people would talk about Gambhir’s match winning performance. It almost seems forgotten.”

The tweet soon caught the eyes of Aakash Chopra, who came up with a perfect reply. In his tweet, he wrote that Gautam Gambhir should have got the award ‘too’. But he also stated that the six from MS Dhoni would still be iconic. He wrote:

“Ohhh…that was a Man of The Match performance. Gambhir should’ve got the award too. But still…the Dhoni six would’ve been ‘that’ iconic moment. Some moments are….This Was One.”

Fans agreed with Aakash Chopra and came up with similar thoughts on this matter. Here, check out the reactions of Twitterati on this:

Exactly like Kapil Sir’s catch to dismiss Viv Richards in ‘83… it is a picture that represents an emotion and does not take away from the squad or coaching staff and their contributions…

Do we question when openers get more hundreds then a no.6 batsman. They are the ones who are talked about when best batsman are decided on the basis of runs. Similarly an opener can’t begrudge over when a no.6 batsman hits a six to win the match & that moment is itched in memory

It was a good length delivery on the spot. Even you will be able to dislodge the ball out of the park.
