MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings defeated Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets in the final match of the IPL 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
It was an emotional moment for fans all across the world as they saw Dhoni lead Chennai Super Kings all the way in what was believed to be his last match in the tournament’s history. Chennai won the title for the fifth time to go level with Mumbai Indians.
Why MS Dhoni Is The Only Real Star In Cricket
It was a memorable season for MS Dhoni, who kept attracting huge crowds across venues this season. Throughout the season, the stadiums witnessed a sea of yellow, irrespective of the venues and the cities, fans came in massive numbers to cheer for Dhoni. Over 80,000 fans cheered the veteran in the final match. After the game, Dhoni had recently said that he would take a call on his future later this year.
Another reason why fans came out in huge numbers for the CSK skipper is because he stays away from the limelight and IPL is the only time fans get to see him. After taking retirement from international cricket, Dhoni is now seen playing in the Indian Premier League only. And when he is done with the IPL, he vanishes away from the public eye. Not just this, he also stays away from social media.
Recently, a fan ‘cricBC’ took to his social media and shared a very good point that makes Dhoni different from other celebrities. He wrote:
“Celebrities are overexposed today. They do interviews, reels, live appearances. They call the paps to click fake candids for paid PR columns. One of the reasons for Dhoni’s deification today is how he is always illusive. Post IPL, he will vanish from public eye.”
He added: “After IPL is done, Dhoni will only be visible in ads which again increases his brand value for those who pay him for endorsements. It’s not a deliberate ploy to increase his stature. It’s just his nature to walk away from limelight and find his peace in his other passions.”

In a world, that revolves around glam and glitz, Dhoni stays away from all the limelight and this is what makes him different from others. He is truly the only real star in cricket.
