Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra talked about Ajinkya Rahane’s poor form and his place in India’s XI in the series-opening Boxing Day Test match against South Africa, which will kickstart on December 26.

Ajinkya Rahane, who captained the Indian cricket team in the who was leading the Indian cricket team in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli in the first Test match against New Zealand, has been going through a rough phase as a batter.

Rahane missed the second Test match due to an injury. The Mumbai-based middle-order batsman has been struggling to score runs badly. But he has been selected in India’s 18-member Test squad for the South Africa tour.

However, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that Rahane “might find it difficult” to keep his place in the upcoming series-opening Boxing Day Test match against South Africa.

Aakash Chopra, in a video he shared on Koo, highlighted the fact that Ajinkya Rahane has been removed from his position of vice-captain, just after a few days he captained team India in the first test match against New Zealand. In the longest format of the game, Rohit Sharma has been designated as Virat Kohli’s deputy.

Chopra feels that Ajinkya Rahane isn’t even the second-choice vice-captain for the team, considering his poor form. Chopra highlighted how things are changing in Indian cricket. He said:

“KL Rahul has been appointed as India’s Test vice-captain (for the South Africa series as Rohit Sharma is injured. Rahul Dravid is the coach, Rohit is the captain of white-ball formats. I think Rahul may be appointed vice-captain in ODIs also…. Ajinkya Rahane might find it difficult to find a place in the XI. He was captain just a couple of Test matches ago but right now he’s not even the vice-captain. Things are changing in Indian cricket,”

Aakash Chopra’s came after India’s sensational opener KL Rahul was named as the vice-captain for the upcoming series as Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the Test series with a hamstring injury and is currently training at the NCA, Bengaluru.
