Aakash Chopra’s Youtube Video On KL Rahul Has Gone Viral For Wrong Reasons: Soonafter KL Rahul tapped the last ball of Trent Boult‘s first over of the match in the game between Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals, in Jaipur, a stat went around on Twitter and all social media platforms: the stat said that KL Rahul has played 11 first-over maidens in the IPL since 2014.
Did Aakash Chopra Spread Lies Against KL Rahul?
This stat looked both fishy and also believable at first glance. Many fans fell for this stat and started trolling Rahul, saying that he reduces his team’s innings to effectively 19 overs.
The LSG captain copped a lot of flak from the fans who believed this absurd stat to be true. Even experts and ex-cricketers like Aakash Chopra fell for this attention-seeking, false stat which he mentioned in his video.
So what is the truth behind Rahul and first-over maiden overs in the IPL?
The truth is that this was only the first time ever that Rahul played a maiden over in all his IPL career!
That stat which you would have read on social media, or in Chopra’s video. was incorrect and false.
Hello @cricketaakash sir
Please say anything only after full research
Stop spreading fake stats like other sadakchhap twitter experts this is the first time KL Rahul Played a maiden over in IPL history pic.twitter.com/QNmbBxsABo— Manjit (@CricManjit) April 20, 2023
Maiden overs push the batting team behind in the T20 format, and while Rahul’s strike rate has come under the scanner, the experienced opener had made it a point to not play out a maiden over until facing Trent Boult’s fire in the recent LSG-RR match. The opener hasn’t been that imprudent for maiden overs in IPL as that horrible stat said.
So, KLR has played only one maiden in his IPL career, and that came recently against Trent Boult.

His strike rate and intent came under scrutiny and heavy criticism again after he scored 39 runs off 32 balls, strike rate of 121, against RR. Though LSG won the game, they won it by only a small margin of 10 runs and their skipper copped huge criticism.
“We game in here yesterday and saw 180 would be a par score, but the first over from Boult, me and Kyle had a chat and realised this isn’t a 180 wicket. The ball was keeping a bit low, so we gave ourselves time in the powerplay,” he said.
