Australia Know How To Win Knockouts: Gautam Gambhir Cautions India Ahead Of The Final

Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir has suggested Team India, even though they are unbeaten in the tournament and have been in dominating form, be wary of Australia ahead of the World Cup 2023 final.

In a repeat of the 2003 World Cup final, India and Australia will meet in the World Cup 2023 final on Sunday in Ahmedabad. This will be the first time in the ODI WC history that two teams who have previously contested in an ODI World Cup final will do so again. India are hoping that this time the result will be on their side.

India have won all their 10 games so far in the tournament. Australia started with two losses, but bounced back to win 8 consecutive matches heading into the final. An epic encounter awaits in Ahmedabad.

After India defeated New Zealand in the first semi-final on Wednesday in Mumbai, Pat Cummins and his side defeated South Africa in a low-scoring, thrilling semi-final in Kolkata on Thursday. While India recorded a big win by 70 runs, Australia scrapped and dragged themselves in the chase of 213, winning by only 3 wickets.

Gautam Gambhir observed that Australia still weren’t at their best in the semi-final against the Proteas. Gautam Gambhir reckons even though Australia are “still very vulnerable”, the Aussies know how to win the knockouts – this will be Australia’s fifth ODI World Cup final; they have won 5 finals in 7 attempts, creating an epic, unmatchable dynasty in ODI cricket.

The 2011 World Cup winner opined that India will be “very confident” of facing Australia in the final, having defeated them in Chennai earlier in the tournament.

“Don’t think Australia brought their A-game in the semi-final. Australia are still very vulnerable, but yes, they know how to win these knockout games. India will have to play their A-game in the final, which they have been playing since the last 10 matches. India are going to be very confident facing Australia in Ahmedabad,” Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports.
