Axar Patel Trolled His Captain David Warner

Axar Patel has been in terrific all-round form in the IPL 2023, making contributions with both bat and ball. But it seems that the southpaw is unhappy with his skipper David Warner and the Delhi Capitals management as he trolled them with a witty remark.

After his brilliant bowling performance against CSK, Axar Patel took a cheeky dig at skipper David Warner.

Throughout the entire IPL 2023 tournament, there seems to have been a lack of faith from captain Warner in Axar’s ability to bowl to left-handers. Despite his being very able to bowl to lefties, Warner has in a few games not completed Patel’s quota of 4 overs because of a left-hander being at the crease. This match-up, Warner perhaps believes, works against the left-arm spin of Axar . However, the spinner doesn’t seem to believe so.

And he proved it on Wednesday when he dismissed Devon Conway on his first ball, trapped lbw. He then also dismissed the in-form Gaikwad.

After finishing his spell of 2/27, Axar Patel made a witty remark, taking a dig at Warner.

Axar said: “Glad that I got a wicket off my first ball, otherwise I might have not bowled all 4 overs,” before laughing and walking off.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) consolidated their second position in the points table with a thumping 27 runs victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Chepauk. DC continue to remain at the bottom of the points table, and now with 8 points in 11 matches, they are all but out of the playoff race.

After electing to bat first, CSK got off to a rough start and were 77/4 on a pitch that was assisting spinners. However, Shivam Dube smoked three sixes to snatch back the momentum and the CSK innings had another MS Dhoni finish, 20 off 9, to end up at 167/8.

In the chase, DC had an ever poorer start and were left reeling at 25/3. A run-a-ball 59 partnership between Rossouw and Pandey stopped the wickets flow but was too slow for DC to later catch up and wickets fell continuously, allowing CSK to take a 27-run victory and get closer to sealing their playoff spot.

Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals: Gavaskar

Midway through the IPL 2023 season, legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar suggested DC name Axar their captain after their 5-match losing streak at the start of the tournament.

“I believe Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals. He is an honest player. He’s in a good rhythm. The Indian team can benefit from him being named the captain of the franchise and performing well. All these things should be done in a long run,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports Cricket Live.
