IPL 2024: BCCI Takes Action Against Virat Kohli For Confronting Umpires After Controversial Dismissal

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced disciplinary action against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli for his conduct during the IPL 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 21.

Virat Kohli’s controversial dismissal during the game sparked widespread controversy and led to a heated confrontation between him and the on-field umpires.

BCCI Takes Action Against Virat Kohli For Confronting Umpires After Controversial Dismissal

In the IPL 2024 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the third over saw KKR’s Harshit Rana deliver a high full-toss to Virat Kohli. Kohli attempted to play the delivery but ended up getting a leading edge back to the bowler, who took a clean catch.

The on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire to determine whether the delivery was above waist height and thus a no-ball. After review, the TV umpire deemed the delivery fair, resulting in Kohli being given out.

Virat Kohli’s frustration was evident after being given out in the IPL match against KKR. He expressed his displeasure to the on-field umpires, visibly upset by the decision. However, his reaction has led to consequences from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Kohli has been fined 50% of his match fee for breaching the code of conduct.

“Mr Virat Kohli, Batter, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024.”

“Kohli committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the official release read.
