IPL 2024 Playoffs: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a heartbreaking loss by just 1 run against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a thrilling match at the Eden Gardens Stadium on Sunday.
Coming out to bat first, Kolkata Knight Riders posted a formidable total of 226/6 in their 20 overs, thanks to impressive innings from skipper Shreyas Iyer and opener Phil Salt. In response, RCB showed great determination with solid contributions from Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks, but fell short of the target despite coming close.
RCB Has Only Won 1 Game In IPL 2024
The Faf du Plessis-led side has been struggling int he ongoing 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League, with 7 defeats in the 8 games they have played so far. They are currently sitting at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points-table.
In the history of this league, the teams in the IPL needed around 16 points to secure a spot in the playoffs. However, with the addition of new teams like Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, the competition has become fiercer, and the bar for qualification has been raised. In the past few seasons, even teams with 14 points have struggled to make it to the playoffs.
Here’s How RCB Can Still Qualify For IPL 2024 Playoffs
Considering RCB’s current situation, with only 2 points from 8 matches, RCB would need to win all their remaining games to reach 14 points. While this would be a commendable feat, it’s doubtful whether 14 points would be sufficient to secure a playoff berth given the current competitive landscape of the IPL.
Despite the slim statistical chance, RCB faces an uphill battle to make it to the playoffs. RCB not only need to win all their matches but also rely on other results to go their way. Given these factors, the likelihood of RCB reaching the playoffs this season appears quite low.
