Border-Gavaskar Trophy: How Many Wickets Has Ravichandran Ashwin Taken Against Australia?

The ever-intense Border-Gavaskar Trophy will resume on February 9 in Nagpur as India and Australia go head to head in what promises to be an exciting 4-Test series.

Team India has arrived in Nagpur and started their preparatory camp, while Australia landed in Bangalore earlier this week and begin their practice there.

When and where will be the Test matches played between India and Australia?

The first Test will be played in Nagpur from February 9. The second Test will be played in Delhi followed by the third Test in Dharamsala, before the series concludes in Ahmedabad by March 13.

India are the current holders of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having won the last three Test series between the two teams – in 2017 in India, followed by two historic series triumphs in Australia in 2018/19 and 2020/21.

How many wickets has Ravichandran Ashwin taken vs Australia?

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has taken 89 wickets in 18 Tests against Australia at a bowling average of 31. When it comes to the Tests in India, Ashwin has a dominating record.

Against Australia in the two home series in 2013 and 2017, in 8 Tests, Ashwin took 50 wickets at 23 with 5 five-wicket hauls. Ashwin’s spin bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja has a similar record: 49 wickets in 8 Tests at home vs Australia at 18.

Overall, in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy matches, legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble leads the tally with a whopping 111 wickets in 20 Tests. Following Kumble are Harbhajan Singh (95 wickets), Nathan Lyon (94 wickets), Ashwin (89) and Jadeja (63).

Ashwin, Jadeja, and Lyon will have massive roles to play for their respective teams in the upcoming series. Lyon had helped Australia defeat India in Pune in 2017, but India bounced back to win the series. The duo of Ashwin and Jadeja played significant roles in India’s triumphs in Australia on the last two tours.

This series, which is also crucial from the WTC final standpoint, will add to the legacy of these three spinners.
