On Thursday, the complete cricket fraternity was left heartbroken and in a state of shock after the sudden passing away of Dean Jones the legendary Australian cricketer turned sports commentator, after he suffered a cardiac arrest. Dean Jones was currently in India as a commentator for the IPL. The news of his demise was confirmed by Star India via an official statement. They wrote:
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing away of Dean Mervyn Jones AM,”
They added:
“He died of a sudden cardiac arrest. We express our deep condolences to his family and stand ready to support them in this difficult time.
“Dean Jones was one of the great ambassadors of the game associating himself with Cricket development across South Asia. He was passionate about discovering new talent and nurturing young Cricketers. He was a champion commentator whose presence and presentation of the game always brought joy to millions of fans. He will be sorely missed by everyone at Star and his millions of fans across the globe.”
As per the reports, Mr. Jones’ compatriot and fellow-commentator for the ongoing season of IPL 2020, Brett Lee was with him, when the commentator passed away because of the cardiac arrest in the lobby of the hotel. Brett Lee tried to resuscitate Dean Jones by giving him CPR, however, he was unable to save him.
Talking about the legendary cricketer and commentator, Dean Jones made his debut against the West Indies in 1984. During his career, he scored 3,631 runs from 52 Tests at an impressive average of 46.55. His iconic knock of the double century is still regarded as one of the most memorable performances of his career. His career as a batsman finished with 11 centuries in the longest format of the game.
