The ICC World Cup 2023 in India has been nothing short of electrifying, but amid all the excitement and cricketing fervor, a poignant narrative has emerged – that of the Pakistan cricket team and its devoted fanbase. Their journey has been marred by visa issues, a lack of fan support, and an unexpected viral outbreak.
The lifeblood of any cricket tournament is the unwavering support of passionate fans. Unfortunately, during the ICC World Cup 2023, the Pakistan cricket team finds itself in an unusual predicament. A significant portion of their loyal supporters has yet to secure Indian visas, preventing them from witnessing the cricketing extravaganza live.
As the tournament unfolds, only a handful of Pakistani fans and dedicated journalists have managed to obtain their visas, allowing them to travel to India and be part of the thrilling One-Day International (ODI) matches. The scarcity of fan presence in the stands has not gone unnoticed and has become a major talking point in the cricketing world.
Mickey Arthur, Pakistan’s team director, voiced his concern regarding the lack of support, especially after a disappointing match against arch-rivals India in Ahmedabad. The absence of vociferous Pakistani fans, who typically create an electric atmosphere, has left the players yearning for more.
[Cricket World Cup 2023] Hasan Ali Blames India For The Viral Fever In The Pakistan Team
The strained diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan have had a direct impact on the cricketing event. This situation has left Pakistani fans in a lamentable position, unable to travel in significant numbers to support their beloved team. This geopolitical tension has inadvertently overshadowed the spirit of cricket, emphasizing the unfortunate repercussions it can have on sports.
Hasan Ali, one of Pakistan’s pace spearheads, acknowledged the scarcity of fans but emphasized that it would not deter the team’s mindset or confidence in the upcoming matches of the tournament. In a determined tone, Hasan Ali stated, “Of course, we miss our fans, but that is not in our control. As professionals, we should focus on cricket.”
Beyond the visa and fan support concerns, the Pakistan cricket team’s preparation for the tournament has been further disrupted by a sudden viral outbreak within the squad. A contagious fever swept through the players, significantly affecting their physical well-being and readiness for the matches.
Six players from the team were afflicted by the viral illness, but fortunately, most of them have now recovered. Nevertheless, the squad will be without Salman Agha for the critical fixture against Australia due to the outbreak. This medical setback has compounded the team’s challenges during the World Cup.
Hasan Ali attributed the viral outbreak to the team’s confinement within their hotel. He explained, “We can’t go out much. If we do want to go out, we have to go with an entire security team. The hospitality is good, and we are well taken care of, but we cannot venture outside without notifying the security due to safety concerns.”
