Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has made a sensational revelation that a Pakistani fan had thrown an iron nail at him during a game in Peshawar on India’s tour of Pakistan in 2004.
Irfan Pathan made his revelation on Thursday while doing commentary during the India vs Bangladesh match in Pune.
When the topic came up about the Pakistanis on social media complaining about the behavior of the crowd in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last Saturday, Pathan said that he was bowling well in that match in Peshawar and a Pakistani fan threw an iron nail at him that hit him straight under his eyes, and he was fortunate that it didn’t hit him inside his eye.
The former all-rounder said that neither he nor his teammates did any cribbing about the crowd behavior in Pakistan, giving a stern reply to the Pakistani fans, and also Mickey Arthur who had expressed upsetness over the entire Ahmedabad crowd being in favor of India.
Irfan Pathan reportedly said in Star Sports: ” “I remember once I was bowling good in Pakistan. We were playing a game in Peshawar, a fan suddenly threw an iron nail at me which struck under my eye. We never made an issue out of that and always appreciated their hospitality. Pakistan should stop making issues on crowd behaviour in India”.
Pathan first played against Pakistan in Peshawar on the historic tour of 2004. Pathan took 3 wickets in that ODI.
Some people trying to spread unnecessary negativity: Irfan Pathan
Former India batsman and now a co-commentator of Pathan’s, Aakash Chopra, took to Twitter to applaud Pathan for his bravery and for not speaking about this incident until today. Chopra recalled that the game was stopped for a while and now everyone has learned why it was halted.
Aakash Chopra tweeted: “Didn’t know that fans in Peshawar threw a nail at Irfan, which hit him under the eye. Remember the game getting stopped for a bit bcoz of fan trouble but it’s only today I got to know the exact reason. Well done, @IrfanPathan for keeping the big-picture in mind. Love you bro.”
Replying to Chopra, Irfan Pathan slammed some journalists, media and social media influencers about spreading “unnecessary negativity” against the Indian fans after the Ahmedabad match.
Pathan replied: “I Would have taken to my grave brother cos I think fans are the utmost important to this game and things do happen. But the narrative is set differently now days with some ppl trying to spread unnecessary negativity for their own benefit. So i spoke. Love you brother”
