Rachin Ravindra wouldn’t have even started in this IPL 2024 season had his New Zealand teammate Devon Conway been fit. Now, it seems that Conway will have to be on the bench when he returns – expectedly in May – considering the blockbuster knocks young Rachin has played so far.
Rachin Ravindra, who was New Zealand’s highest run-scorer during the World Cup 2023 in India last year, was bought for only INR 1.8 crore by CSK in the IPL 2024 auction.
The fans termed this purchase as a steal considering Rachin is an all-rounder, a versatile batter who could bat at the top and in the middle-order, and is young. Now, it is feeling that Rachin Ravindra would be one of the players that CSK might retain ahead of the mega-auction.
He started the tournament with a cameo of 37 runs in 15 balls against RCB that got CSK going in their chase of 174. On Tuesday night, he came against a Gujarat Titans bowling attack that is stronger than RCB’s and is coming off a terrific performance against Mumbai Indians.
But there was no trepidation in Rachin, who once again batted with high intent to maximize the powerplay. He walloped Umesh Yadav for a six and a four before collecting a couple of boundaries off Azmatullah Omarzai. The left-hander then tore into the two pacers again.
He even smacked Rashid Khan for a boundary but the leg-spinner had the last laugh at Rachin got stumped. At the end of the powerplay, CSK were 69/1 with Rachin scoring 46 (20) with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes.
