Delhi Capitals opener David Warner‘s redemption was complete as he thwacked his former franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad, 92 unbeaten runs from 58 balls on Thursday evening at the Brabourne Stadium. In his entertaining knock, David Warner crunched 12 fours and walloped 3 eye-catching sixes.
One of those boundaries was such that it stunned everyone and took all by surprise; Harsha Bhogle on commentary duties called it the “cleverest shot of the day”. Because it didn’t involve much power from Warner; in fact, it may not have even been an intentional boundary from Warner.
On the first ball of the 19th over, bowled by the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Warner, a left-handed batsman, turned around in position of a right-hander looking for a switch hit. Reasonably, Warner has done this plenty of times in his career, but mostly to spinners.
Now, Bhuvneshwar smartly bowled on the right-handed Warner’s foot outside the off-stump (of the right-hander); it wouldn’t have been called a wide because now Warner had switched his position.
It was a good yorker. Warner judged the line quickly and moved his leg out of the way before bringing his bat down just in time, and with a full face he dug it out. Not only did he manages to get a good bat on it, because of the quick outfield and short dimension of the Brabourne Stadium, it beat Umran Malik at the then fine leg position (now the third man for the right-hander). It amazed both Harsha Bhogle and Sunil Gavaskar in the commentary box and the netizens on Twitter.
