A commonly used saying for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni is the “Dhoni Review System” – that is the DRS. While it’s original full form is the Umpire Decision Review System, because of the spot-on usage that Dhoni has so often done in his career, it is also named the “Dhoni Review System”.
And that was in usage again on Saturday evening when Dhoni overturned an umpire’s call of Not Out of Mumbai Indians (MI) batsman Suryakumar Yadav during the MI-CSK clash at the Wankhede.
The 41-year-old CSK skipper showed incredibly sharp reflexes to take the catch of Suryakumar Yadav down the leg-side off Mitchell Santner’s bowling.
On the second ball of the 8th over of MI’s innings, Santner erred in his line and bowled a bit down the legside to Suryakumar. It was a ball that Suryakumar in his best form would have deposited to the boundary. However, now going through a lean patch, Suryakumar played the sweep shot and gloved it to Thala behind the stumps as the CSK captain was swift in moving down the legside.
MS Dhoni and Santner went up in the appeal, but the on-field umpire signaled a wide. Within a couple of seconds, MS Dhoni signaled the ‘T’ for the DRS. Upon review, the third umpire needed only one look of the UltraEdge to confirm that there was some glove on the ball and told the on-field umpire to reverse his decision to Out.
“The MS Dhoni Review System Strikes Again,” up went Twitter as the fans lauded the CSK captain:
