Dhoni Scored 91, But Yuvraj Would Have Definitely Got A Hundred: Gautam Gambhir

Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir has made another bold statement involving MS Dhoni.

Gautam Gambhir, who was the top-scorer for India in the World Cup 2011 final against Sri Lanka with 97 runs, said that while MS Dhoni scored 91, had Yuvraj Singh came in to bat at number 5, he would have “definitely” got the hundred.

MS Dhoni came in to bat with India’s score of 114/3, and both formed a 109-run partnership with Gautam Gambhir. After Gambhir got out, having put India on the brink of victory Yuvraj Singh came in and whacked 21 runs in 24 balls before Dhoni finished the final with a sixer.

It is believed that Dhoni came ahead of Yuvraj, despite the latter’s great form in the tournament, because he wanted to continue the left-right combination with Gautam Gambhir, also keeping in mind that Sri Lanka had three off-spinners in their bowling attack.

Speaking on News24 recently, Gambhir opined that Yuvraj would have got a century in the final had he came to bat at number 5, adding that he was surprised to see Dhoni walk in at number 5.

Gambhir said: “I genuienly believe that if Yuvraj Singh had come to bat instead of MS Dhoni in 2011 World Cup final, he would have definitely got a hundred. Because the kind of form Yuvraj was in the tournament, and the kind of pitch it was – as I said, I was a bit surprised to see Dhoni at number 5 – I am 100 percent sure, MS scored 90-odd runs but Yuvi would have definitely got a hundred the way he was batting.”
