Indian Premier League and controversies go hand-in-hand. Lately, Robin Uthappa has been making a lot of news, however, for a lot of controversial reasons.
How The Controversy Started?

On Tuesday Robin came out to support Chennai Super Kings during the Qualifier 1 round of the ongoing 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, however, this didn’t go down well with the fans of KKR. Uthappa has now found himself in the middle of an unwanted controversy as fans decided to take his tweet on Chennai Super Kings out of context and gave him hate.
Well, a few moments ahead of the IPL 2023 Qualifier between CSK and Gujarat Titans, Uthappa posted a picture of himself and his son in the yellow jersey, extending his support to the Dhoni-led side.

Pointing out Uthappa’s biased behavior towards CSK, a fan tweeted: “Bro played one-two seasons with Chennai and sold his soul. I have never seen him supporting KKR like this,”
Uthappa was quick to notice the tweet and come up with a reply to it. He wrote: “Loyalty and respect is a give and take my friend.”

For the unversed, Uthappa has had quite a journey in the Indian Premier League as he has been a part of several teams including — Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors.
However, he spent the most time with Kolkata Knight Riders. He was an integral part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad from 2014 to 2019. He helped the team win the 2014 season under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. He was later associated with Chennai Super Kings for three years.
Therefore, when his tweet about ‘loyalty and respect’ went viral, he was immediately bombarded with hate-filled messages from the Kolkata Knight Riders fans.
Robin Uthappa Issued A Clarification
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Uthappa decided to give one more try to resolve the misunderstanding between him and the Kolkata fans. He took to his social media and clarified that he felt ‘alienated’ at Kolkata Knight Riders after Gambhir left. He wrote:
“So much has been said since last night & I thank you for sharing. However I have always maintained that my 1st 4 yrs in KKR wen gauti led was completely diff from my last 2 years and that had a huge impact on my performances. I can assure you it had nothing to do with Captaincy!”
He added:
“After Gauti was let go, everything changed and i felt alienated. However my love for the fans of KKR was the same and will remain the same forever. I’m forever grateful for their support and I wanna clarify that!! This isn’t about the fans of KKR. I’ll forever love and respect em”
