The IPL 2023 season is nearing its end. The 16th edition of the IPL has been an exciting one and with the last playoff spot getting decided only after the conclusion of the last league phase match.
Gujarat Titans were the first team to qualify for the playoffs and secure a top 2 berth. The race for the remaining three spots went into the last two days and then we hadĀ Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, andĀ Mumbai Indians to fill up the remaining spots in the playoffs.
Most of the players from these four teams have played superbly, making big contributions to their wins. However, a few of their regulars were a big flop this season.
Here are big flop players from the top 4 teams in IPL 2023:
Gujarat Titans: Wriddhiman Saha, Yash Dayal
Saha’s numbers of average of 21 and strike rate of 128 aren’t really inspiring confidence as an opener. Especially when most of the matches he played on were on batting-friendly tracks.
Left-arm pacer Yash Dayal had a nightmarish game when Rinku Singh smashed him for 5 sixes in 5 balls to seal a thrilling chase. Even apart from that, Dayal has had a poor season: 5 wickets in 5 matches, economy of 11.78.
Chennai Super Kings: Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu
Moeen Ali was demoted from number 3 at the start of the season to number 8 when CSK played the Qualifier 1 vs GT. The left-handed Englishman has had a dismal tournament with the bat: 124 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 136 with a highest of 23.
Ambati Rayudu, too, isn’t having an ideal what could well be his last IPL season. A seasoned campaigner, Rayudu has scored 139 runs in 11 innings with a best of 27* which came early in the season.
Lucknow Super Giants: Deepak Hooda
Owing to his terrible form, Deepak Hooda has been moved up and down the order and also in and out of the team. But nothing seems to be working. Hooda is amongst the worst of the batters in IPL 2023 with 69 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of only 89 and a highest score of 17.
Mumbai Indians: Jofra Archer, Chris Jordan
The English duo of Archer and Jordan haven’t had an appealing debut season for Mumbai Indians. Archer featured in 5 matches, taking just 2 wickets at an economy of 9.5 before returning home as his elbow injury flared up again. His replacement, Chris Jordan, has had it equally worse with 2 wickets in 4 matches at an economy of 10.87.
