The Indian team delivered on the expectations and hype during the IND vs PAK match in the World Cup 2023 group stage to thrash their arch-rivals by 7 wickets in Ahmedabad.

After the bowlers bundled out Pakistan for 191 runs, forcing a collapse from 155/2 to 191 all-out – Pakistan losing their last 8 wickets for only 36 runs – India captain Rohit Sharma stole the show with his blistering knock of 86 runs in 63 balls that all but seal the win for India in front of a 130,000-strong crowd assembled under one roof at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

IND vs PAK was watched by 3.5 crore concurrent viewers, breaks previous record in IPL 2023 final

The entire country, and their fans all over the world, celebrated India’s historic win, which extended their winning streak to 8-0 against Pakistan in ODI World Cup. Also in celebration was the Disney+ Hotstar company, the digital broadcaster of the World Cup 2023.

The IND vs PAK match was their biggest factor in pushing massive bids to attain the broadcasting rights for the World Cup. And it would be fair to say that they were met with the expectations as the fans broke the all-time record of concurrent viewership of any cricket match on digital platforms.

It has been reported that the IND vs PAK World Cup 2023 match attained a peak concurrent viewership of 3.5 crore viewers. This broke the previous record of 3.2 crore for Jio Cinema which happened during this year’s IPL 2023 final between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, which CSK won.

“Disney+ Hotstar broke the viewership record for an OTT streaming during the 2023 World Cup cricket match between India and Pakistan

They reached a peak concurrent viewership of 3.5 crore, surpassing JioCinema’s previous record of 3.2 crore during the 2023 IPL finals,” tweeted tech influencer ‘Utsav Techie’.

Jasprit Bumrah was named as the Player of the Match for his figures of 7-1-19-2.

India captain Rohit Sharma praised the bowlers, saying “The bowlers were the ones today as well who set the game up for us. I don’t think it was a 190 pitch. At one stage we were looking at 280. The way they showed grit says a lot. That is something we pride ourselves in. Whoever gets the ball does the job. We’ve got 6 individuals who can do the job with the ball. My job as a captain is important there as well. It’s to read the conditions and figure out who’s the right guy to do the job.”

India next face Bangladesh in Pune on October 19.
