Indian billionaire businessman and the Chairperson of Mahindra and Mahindra, Anand Mahindra, is getting slammed by fans for announcing a gift for the father of Sarfaraz Khan while ignoring Dhruv Jurel.
Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel made their Test debut together in the third Test against England in Rajkot. The limelight and headlines mostly focused on Sarfaraz Khan and his father, Naushad, while little attention was given to Dhruv Jurel by the media and broadcasters.
Naushad played professional cricket in Mumbai, but due to financial conditions, he couldn’t pursue a big career in cricket. He moved to Mumbai from his home state UP with his two sons, Sarfaraz and Musheer, and built professional careers for them. At the time Sarfaraz received his maiden India call up, his younger brother, Musheer, was plying his trade in the under-19 World Cup in South Africa, from where he returned as the second-leading scorer in the tournament.
Naushad and Sarfaraz’s wife were present at the time of his cap presentation ceremony and there were emotions flowing from all three to mark this huge occasion.
Sarfaraz Khan then slammed a brilliant half-century, scoring 62 runs in 66 balls, but got run out. Dhruv Jurel got to bat on Day 2 and he scored precious 46 runs that helped India go past 400 in their first innings.
Anand Mahindra announces to gift Thar to Sarfaraz Khan and his father
As a token of his appreciation and admiration, Anand Mahindra announced that he wishes to gift Sarfaraz Khan’s father, Naushad, a Thar car. While this was a great gesture, fans were upset at Anand Mahindra not even tweeting about Dhruv Jurel, let alone gift him.
Anand Mahindra tweeted, “Hard work. Courage. Patience.
What better qualities than those for a father to inspire in a child?
For being an inspirational parent, it would be my privilege & honour if Naushad Khan would accept the gift of a Thar.”
Some fans pointed out that Jurel comes from a financially-struggling background wherein his mother had to sell her gold chain in order to fund Jurel’s cricket kit.
Meanwhile, Duckett’s century has put England on top of the match. At stumps on Day 2, England trail by only 238 runs with 8 wickets in hand.
