For the second time in his brief Test career, Shubman Gill has got out for the score of 91. But the dismissal at the Gabba in 2021 won’t hurt him as much as the one in Rajkot would – then he was only starting his career and got out to Nathan Lyon, now he is resurrecting his test career and got run out.
Shubman Gill’s reaction while walking back – he hit the ground in anger with his bat and looked livid – told it all. And right so as he missed out on a well-deserved century to a run-out.
Shubman Gill had batted pristinely for his 91(151), creaming 9 fours and 2 sixes. He was the second fiddle to Yashasvi Jaiswal on the evening of Day 3 as the left-hander smoked 9 fours and 5 sixes in his blockbuster innings.
The right-hander raised his fifty, and it had come while he looked like he had barely broken a sweat. This knock was comfortably a better and more assured one than his century in Vizag where he was batting with his place in the side on the line and got three reprieves.
Kuldeep Yadav, who had batted impressively today, played an on drive to Tom Hartley and called for a quick single. The non-striker, Gill, responded Kuldeep’s call and was almost halfway down the pitch when Kuldeep saw Ben Stokes at mid-on pick up the ball and aborted the run. Gill turned around and sprinted back and even put in a big dive, but Hartley had collected the throw from Stokes and dislodged the bails by then.
The giant screen showed Shubman Gill be short by a few inches and the batter had to take the long walk back, unhappily. Kuldeep sat on his haunches, regretting the run out.
Kuldeep Yadav got trolled on Twitter for running out Shubman Gill on 91 in Rajkot:
