Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli are two of the biggest names in Indian cricket over the past couple of decades. Both have brought India great laurels through their cricket, giving people happiness and relief via their generous good deeds in the form of charity and rest.
Here is a look at Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir’s numbers in ICC tournaments:

ICC ODI World Cup:
Gautam Gambhir:
Gautam Gambhir has played in only 1 ODI World Cup, in 2011. In 9 matches, Gambhir scored 393 runs at an admirable average of 43 and a strike rate of 85. Gambhir hit 4 half-centuries in that 2011 World Cup, and saved his best for the last: 97 against Sri Lanka in the final at the Wankhede stadium which played a major role in India lifting the trophy after 28 years of wait.
His three other fifties in that tournament came against Australia (Quarter-final), England, and South Africa.
Virat Kohli:
Kohli has featured in three ODI World Cups so far, in 2011, 2015, and 2019, across 26 matches. He’s amassed 1030 runs at a good average of 46 and strike rate of 86 having notched up 2 centuries and 6 fifties.
Kohli’s centuries in ODI World Cup came against Bangladesh in 2011 in what was his first ODI WC game, and in 2015 against Pakistan. Kohli didn’t manage a single hundred in the 2019 World Cup in England.
While Kohli averages 59 in the group stage of the ODI World Cup, the former skipper hasn’t stepped up in the knockouts in ODI World Cups: in 6 knockouts games, he’s managed only 68 runs.
ICC T20 World Cup:
Gautam Gambhir:
Gautam Gambhir played a crucial role in India’s T20 World Cup 2007 final triumph over Pakistan with his score of 75. Gambhir featured in the first 4 T20 World Cups. In 20 innings, he scored 524 runs at an average of 26 and strike rate of 118. The left-hander hit 4 fifties in T20 WCs, the most memorable of which was against arch-rivals Pakistan in the 2007 final in Jo’burg.
Virat Kohli:
He has been a beast in T20 World Cup when it comes to runs and averages. He’s the leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup history with 1141 runs in 25 innings at a mind-blowing average of 81 with 14 half-centuries (in 25 knocks), but has a mediocre strike rate of 135. Kohli has faced 13 different opponents in T20 WC and against 10 of them, he has hit a fifty! He played couple of all-time great T20 World Cup innings, against Australia in 2016 and vs Pakistan in 2022.
Virat Kohli, however, has not won a single T20 World Cup in his career.
