On Wednesday, former Indian spin wizard Harbhajan Singh revealed his 15-man Indian squad for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies.
No Place For Seniors In Harbhajan’s Playing XI vs WI
Harbhajan has named Hardik Pandya as the captain of his side and has left out senior batters including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, saying that they all deserve to be rested. Instead, he has included young players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Tilak Varma, all of whom impressed during the recently concluded 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Harbhajan also included the likes of Jitesh Sharma and Akash Madhwal, as both of these players were impressive for their respective franchises in the Indian Premier League.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan, who is still in London after covering the World Test Championship (WTC) Final said that the team captained by Hardik Pandya would be capable of beating any side in the world. He said:
“Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, if a young team is given chances, it would help secure the future of Indian cricket. For the West Indies series, the remaining senior players such as (Ravindra) Jadeja, Virat (Kohli) and Rohit (Sharma) should be rested, and the young blood must be tested,”
Harbhajan Singh also shared his India playing XI on his official Twitter account. Check out his Tweet:
Fans Are Trolling Harbhajan Singh
However, his tweet didn’t go down well with many fans, who were irked with him for not including any senior players. There were many who trolled him for using only the ‘captain’s’ picture in his Tweet.
Check out the reactions of the fans:
For the unversed, recently, Harbhajan on a day when the Indian cricket team lost the WTC Final 2023 to Australia by 209 runs, Harbhajan took a fan to task when he implied that former captain MS Dhoni had won the T20 World Cup and defeated Australia on his own. The fan wrote:
“No coach, no mentor, young boys, most of the senior player’s denied to take part. Never captained any single match before. This guy defeated prime Australia in semifinals and won a T20 World Cup in 48 days after becoming captain,”
Harbhajan was quick to notice the tweet and come up with a reply to the fan, saying that the other 10 players played an important part in those achievements because ultimately cricket is a team sport. He wrote:
“Yes, when these matches were played this young boy was playing alone from India… not the other 10. So, alone he won the World Cup trophies. Irony when Australia or any other nation wins the World Cup, headlines say Australia or etc country won. But when India wins, it’s said captain won. It’s a team sports. Win together, lose together,”
Ever since then, Harbhajan is getting trolled on the micro-blogging site for his tweet against Dhoni.
