Here’s How WTC Points Table Looks After India Lost The Test Series: South African registered a memorable come-from-behind series win against India to clinch the series 2-1. Dean Elgar’s side won the second and the third Test by 7 wickets after they had lost the first Test by 113 runs.
This has affected India’s position in the World Test Champions points table as they managed to take 12 points out of 36 available in this series while South Africa earned 24 points.
India have slipped to the fifth spot in the table, with 49.07 PCT% and 53 points after winning four, losing three and drawing two Tests so far in the WTC cycle. India have been docked a total of 3 points so far in the current cycle due to maintaining slow over rates.
This was South Africa’s first series in the WTC cycle and they start at the fourth spot with 66.67 PCT%. Sri Lanka, who whitewashed West Indies 2-0 at home in 2021, sit atop with 100 PCT%, followed by Australia (83.33%) and Pakistan (75%). England are at the bottom with just one win in 8 Tests and have also been 10 points for slow over rate.
In the WTC 2021-2023, teams will get 12 points for a win, 4 for a draw and 6 for a tie. Points percentage system (PCT) will be used to determine the leaderboard where PCT = Points won by a team / Points contested * 100.
Meanwhile, following the loss to South Africa, Indian captain Virat Kohli lamented the continuous batting failures.
Virat Kohli, who scored a gritty fifty in Cape Town, admitted that lack of runs on the board was the key reason for their series loss and that it needs to be addressed before the next series.
At the post-match presentation when asked of what led to the defeat, Kohli said, “It is definitely batting. I don’t think we can pinpoint any other aspect of our game as a team. Yes, the batting obviously has to be looked into. There’s no running away from that. Having collapses every now and then is not a good thing. And that’s something we need to analyse and correct, moving forward.”
