“Mr Jasprit Bumrah did not travel with the team to Indore for the 2nd ODI against Australia. He has gone to visit his family and was given a short break by the team management. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has joined the team as Bumrah’s replacement for the 2nd ODI. Bumrah will join the team for the final ODI in Rajkot,” the BCCI tweeted before the toss in the 2nd ODI.
Prasidh Krishna was inserted into the starting lineup in lieu of Bumrah, while Mukesh Kumar was added to the squad. Concerns were voiced regarding India’s ability to perform without their best fast bowler after the unexpected team change. Cricket fans all across the globe took notice of the late-game lineup change.
The Australians elected to bowl first after stand-in captain Steve Smith won the toss. Many were wondering whether this decision, made without Bumrah, would affect the result of the game.
