IND vs AUS Test Series: Who Has Scored Most Runs In Border-Gavaskar Trophy?

It is less than a week to go for the India vs Australia Test series to kick start for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The high-voltage India-Australia rivalry will resume on February 9 in Nagpur in the first Test. The second Test will be played in Delhi followed by the third Test in Dharamsala, before the series concludes in Ahmedabad.

India are the current holders of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having won the last three Test series between the two teams – in 2017 in India, followed by two historic series triumphs in Australia in 2018/19 and 2020/21.

Who has scored most runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy?

It is none other than Sachin Tendulkar who tops the run charts in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the Test contests between India and Australia, the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has scored 3262 runs – the most from both sides in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Against Australia, Sachin Tendulkar amassed 3262 runs in 34 Tests at a terrific average of 56 from 1996 (when the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was introduced) to his last Test series against Australia in 2013. Against the mighty Aussies, Tendulkar slammed hundreds both on raging turners in India and spicy, bouncy surfaces in Australia.

Overall, Tendulkar recorded 9 hundreds and 16 fifties in Tests against Australia.

In the run tally of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, following Tendulkar are Ricky Ponting, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, and Michael Clarke.

Following them is Cheteshwar Pujara, who has scored 1893 runs against Australia at 54 with 5 hundreds and 10 fifties. Matthew Hayden, Steve Smith (1742 runs at 72 with 8 hundreds and 5 fifties), Sehwag, and Virat Kohli.

In Tests against Australia, Virat Kohli has plundered 1682 runs at an average of 48. He’s hit 7 hundreds and 5 fifties against Australia in Test cricket.
