The fans witnessed another close encounter as the Indian cricket team defeated Bangladesh in a thrilling encounter, sealing their semi-final spot in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. However, the game which was filled with thrill, entertainment, and emotions, has now sparked a few controversies as Bangladeshi wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan accused former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli of ‘fake fielding’, during the second innings of the match.
After the game, Nurul expressed his disappointment about the ‘wet outfield’ but more significantly, he accused India’s Virat Kohli of ‘fake fielding’ during the Bangladesh innings and added that the five penalty runs could have made all the difference.
Bangladesh kickstarted their innings with a bang and had complete control over the game before the rain intervened after a breathtaking start by Litton Das. While several questions were raised about the hastened start to the game after the rain delay, Nurural Hasan has highlighted another incident of unlawful conduct by the former captain him.
Well, what happened was, in the seventh over of the chase, when Bangladesh was batting Litton Das played a shot towards the deep off-side and as Arshdeep Singh sent in the throw, Virat Kohli, standing at the point faked a shy on the stumps. It went unnoticed by the umpires and the players as well. Speaking about the same incident, Nazrul said:
“Certainly the field was wet and it had an impact and everyone saw that and eventually what I felt is that when we were talking there was a fake throw and it could have been a five-run penalty and that could have gone our way but unfortunately even that didn’t come,”

As per Cricket’s Law 41.5, pertaining to unfair play, prohibits the “deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of [the] batter”, and if an incident is deemed to be a breach, the umpire can declare that particular delivery as dead ball, and the batting side is awarded five runs.
