All the excitement surrounding first India vs Sri Lanka T20 International of 2020 as the match turned out to be a damp squib. The game was called off without a ball being bowled because of a wet pitch which made the playing area unfit for play.
Before the match started, India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bowl first. For the match, Virat Kohli had rested Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal while Sanju Samson and Manish Pandey continued to be on the sidelines. Jasprit Bumrah was about to mark his comeback for the national side with the match yesterday. However, the rain gods had some other plans. The rain came down heavily after the toss took place.
Though at first, it looked more like a passing shower but just when the ground staff started its repair work, the rain returned again. Making the situation even worse. An extra cover was placed on the 22 yards, taking more care this time. And much to everyone’s surprise, the ground staff brought out the hairdryer to dry the wet patches on the pitch. Yes, you read that right.
From steam iron, hair-dryer, vacuum dryer to Super Sopper, the staff tried everything to dry the pitch but no cricket was played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.
The hilarious scenes left everyone surprised. Twitter was flooded with hilarious reactions to the incident. Fans just can’t stop trolling the management for not opting out better measurements.
Here, check out the reactions of Twitterati on this:
