The ICC Champions Trophy will be held in the early part of the year 2025. After the 2-0 series loss against Sri Lanka, India will play no more ODIs in the year 2024. They will just play 3 ODIs against England in 2025 ahead of the Champions Trophy. India have also not played any ODI since ODI World Cup 2023 ahead of the series against Sri Lanka. With Indian batters struggling to get going on the helpful pitches in Sri Lanka, India do need more ODIs to get going in this format to prepare for the Champions Trophy. So, it is definitely a bad sign that they don’t play enough ODIs ahead of the ICC event.
Sri Lankans have beaten India for the first time in a bilateral series since 1997. They were sensational with the ball in this series and also did get the runs on the board in all the three matches. Indian batters failed miserably against the crafty Sri Lankan spinners in the run-chase in all the three matches.
The Indian batters had a really tough time in playing the crafty Sri Lankan spinners during the ODI series against Sri Lanka. The batters failed to adjust to the slow and turning wickets and were trapped in every game. They had a dismal batting performance which is quite a humiliation for them. However, it is not just one series. Team India have struggled to get going on turning tracks in both ODIs and Tests. It needs a lot patience and expertise to score big runs on these type of wickets and definitely the Indian batters are facing problem to adjust to these type of pitches.
The official host of the ICC Champions Trophy is Pakistan. It is not sure whether India will travel to Pakistan for the event. As per reports, the BCCI will ask the ICC to schedule their matches in Sri Lanka or UAE. They did not even travel to Pakistan for The Asia Cup in 2023 and played in the same hybrid model.
India have no ODIs scheduled in 2024 now.
