The IPL 2022 got underway on March 26 and over a couple of dozen matches have been completed.
Fans have been left stunned by the downfall of defending champions Chennai Super Kings and five-time champions Mumbai Indians for the two most successful sides are languishing at the bottom of the points table.
On the other hand, the two new teams, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, have performed exceedingly well with the Titans currently on top of the points table.
Another aspect that’s been much-talked-about this season – similar to the previous seasons – has been the umpiring. There have been a number of umpiring decisions – whether in the case of lbws, inside-edges, run-outs, and even wides – that have left some players and fans upset.
While it’s the players doing everything, umpires do play a big role at times with their decisions that could have an impact on the final outcome of the game. They have been a key part of the sport since ever, one without whom the game won’t move forward, doesn’t matter how much technology gets forward.
What is the salary of umpires in IPL 2022?
As with the players in the IPL, the umpires also get paid heavily by the BCCI. According to thesportsrush.com, the salary of the umpires is based on two categories: ICC Elite Panel’s umpires get INR 1,98,000 per match in the IPL, whereas the development umpires get INR 59,000 per match. There is a fixed sponsorship amount of INR 7,33,000 per season as well.

Speaking about umpiring blunders this season, fans were enraged when Virat Kohli was given out lbw by the on-field umpire and by the third umpire, upon review by the RCB batter, while the slow-motion replays suggested a clear edge as the former RCB skipper missed his fifty vs Mumbai.
Some of the calls of wides, and non-wides, have been pretty shocking while some run-out decisions have been debatable.
