IPL 2022: Jos Buttler Shattered David Warner’s Huge IPL Record

Jos Buttler Shattered David Warner’s Huge IPL Record: Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler’s mammoth season with the bat came to an end with a score of 39 runs from 35 balls in the big finale against the Gujarat Titans, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With this knock, Buttler went past David Warner’s 848-run historic season from 2016, finishing with 863 runs in 17 matches in IPL 2022 to finish with the second-highest number of runs in a single season.

Jos Buttler Broke Warner’s Record

En route to this record, Buttler smashed 4 centuries and 4 half-centuries; he averaged 57 over the course of the season with his runs coming at the strike rate of 149. While Warner didn’t hit a single century in 2016, he had notched up 9 half-centuries leading Sunrisers Hyderabad to their maiden IPL title.

Buttler’s IPL 2022 season was epic and his best ever in the competition. However, he fell way short of what still remains the most dreamy, incredible, godly season with the bat in the IPL: Virat Kohli in 2016, when the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain amassed 973 runs, hammering 4 centuries and 7 fifties, averaging a ridiculous 81 at a strike rate of 152.

In the final, against the Titans, however, Buttler couldn’t get going. And this is despite his sizzling century just two days ago against RCB at this same venue, on the same pitch.

RR vs GT – IPL 2022 Final

RR captain Sanju Samson had won the toss and elected to bat first. Buttler hit the first boundary of the final, a quick square cut off Yash Dayal in the second over of the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal then took on Shami with a four and six and another maximum to Dayal but the left-handed opener fell to the left-arm seamer.

Samson came and made his intentions clear with a thumping boundary down the ground off a 154 KPH delivery from Ferguson. RR were 44/1 at the end of the powerplay, however, Buttler got to play only 14 deliveries in it, scoring 10 runs off it.

A slow start has been his modus operandi this season given how he explodes once in. He showed the ominous signs for GT cracking a couple of fours to both Ferguson and Shami.

However, it was the night for Hardik Pandya with the ball today. The GT skipper first had his counterpart, Samson, with a mistimed pull off a length ball.

Pandya would soon have the big scalp of Buttler too, with another length ball moving slightly away and taking the outside edge of Buttler’s poke straight to Saha. 39 runs off 35 balls, with 5 fours and no sixes, was an uncharacteristic Jos Buttler’s innings to conclude his memorable season.
