5 Players Who Will Become Superstars In The IPL 2023

The IPL 2023 is just a month away. The 16th edition of the IPL will kick start on March 31 in Ahmedabad, which will also host the final on May 28.

This season brings another set of opportunities for the players, more so because the selectors, not just of the Indian team, but other countries as well will want to look out the players who are effective in Indian conditions because of the 2023 World Cup in India later in the year.

Meanwhile, former Indian captain and ex-BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has picked his 5 Indian players who he feels will be successful not just in the IPL 2023 this year, but in the coming years. Ganguly, who has observed this set of players not just as a former India skipper but also from the eye of a BCCI president, has been impressed by them.

Speaking with Star Sports, Ganguly was asked about the 5 youngsters who he feels will be immensely successful in the IPL in the coming years.

The first name Ganguly said with great reverence was that of Suryakumar Yadav, the number 1 T20I batter in the world and someone who’s took on T20 cricket with storm. However, Ganguly pointed out that SKY is not a youngster – he’s 32 – and then named his top 5 youngsters to watch out for in the IPL.

Sourav Ganguly promptly named Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and fast bowler Umran Malik before adding Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill to his list of 5 players who he believes will make it big in the IPL in the upcoming seasons.

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw has been playing impactful knocks in the IPL in recent seasons – batting with great intent and having a high strike rate of around 150 – but hasn’t played big knocks which openers like KL Rahul and Shubman Gill did with consistency last season, although while dropping their strike rate.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant is ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to his multiple injuries sustained in his car accident. The Delhi Capitals captain has been in and out of India’s team, but has done well in the IPL. Like Shaw, last year Pant also focussed on having a higher strike rate while compromising his average and didn’t play a long knock.

Umran Malik

SRH fast bowler Umran Malik had a breakthrough IPL season last year where he picked 22 wickets, including a 5-fer, and later got to play for India. His extreme pace has got everyone excited for what lays in the future.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2021, but managed a mediocre average of around 26 last year. Nonetheless, he had a brilliant domestic season and will be raring to go in the IPL 2023.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has notched up his India career significantly in the past year, after having a bumper IPL 2022 with Gujarat Titans. Gill hit a century each in Test and T20I, and multiple hundreds, including a double century in ODIs and has cemented his place as the opener in India’s ODI side.
