For the first time since 2019, the BCCI will be hosting a full-fledged IPL season in the traditional home-and-away format that the board couldn’t conduct due to the covid-19 pandemic and its impact on player travel.

Also, for the first time after a gap of 3 seasons, the BCCI has decided to do an opening ceremony ahead of the start of the IPL 2023.

The IPL 2023 will kick-start on March 31 with defending champions Gujarat Titans hosting Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi stadium.

IPL 2023

The BCCI hosted an entertaining opening ceremony for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) earlier this month with a few of the renowned Indian actors and singer performing; and the reported details of the opening ceremony for IPL 2023 is set to be made the commencement of the tournament even grander.

Here are the details of the IPL 2023 opening ceremony that BCCI has planned:

According to a report in InsideSport, a full hour of an opening ceremony is planned by the BCCI at the iconic Narendra Modi stadium.

“Yes, there will be an opening ceremony on the 31st. It will be a short one but as the home and away format returns, we felt it was necessary to welcome back the home crowd with a ceremony,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

“BCCI had an opening ceremony for the Women’s Premier League as well. But it received a mixed response in absence of superstars. However, for the IPL Opening ceremony, BCCI wants several Bollywood A-listers,” the report said.

“InsideSport understands that popular Bollywood singers like Arijit Singh have been contacted for a live performance. However, no artist has been confirmed as of writing.”

The BCCI announced the IPL 2023 schedule:

The tournament will start on March 31 and the final will be played on May 28 in Ahmedabad. All 10 teams will play 7 home and 7 away matches in the league phase which comprises 70 games across 52 days from March 31 to May 21, followed by the playoffs.

The 10 franchises have been divided into two groups like last season. Group A has MI,KKR, RR, DC, and LSG, while Group B has CSK, RCB, GT, PBKS, and SRH. Each team will play the five teams of the other group twice and the other four from their own group once.
