IPL 2023 Playoff: RCB’s Win vs SRH Has Hurt These Teams Badly

RCB star batsman Virat Kohli recorded his 6th IPL century – standing now as the joint-most in the IPL with Chris Gayle – on Thursday night in Hyderabad against the home team Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Opening the batting with Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli cracked 100 runs off 63 balls in an opening stand of 172 runs in 17.5 overs in the chase of 185. Challengers ] skipper Faf du Plessis scored 71 runs off 47 balls and Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match with 8 wickets in hand and 4 balls to spare.

Kohli creamed 12 fours and smoked 4 sixes in his innings, one of which was a gigantic 103-meter hit, and another helped him bring his century up against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Kohli’s century overshadowed a brilliant hundred from SRH’s Heinrich Klaasen, who scored 104 runs off 51 balls.

RCB’s win vs SRH hurt 6 other teams!

This win of Royal Challengers Bangalore over SRH has the other six teams who are in contention for 3 playoff spots – CSK, LSG, MI, RR, KKR, and PBKS.

Yes. With this victory, Royal Challengers Bangalore moved up to the 4th spot in the points table, pushing down Mumbai Indians. Both RCB and MI have 14 points in 13 matches, but Royal Challengers Bangalore has a better NRR of +0.180 compared to MI’s -0.128.

This victory by Bangalore Based Franchise has hurt plenty of other teams as well, and not just SRH.

CSK and LSG, who are 2nd and 3rd respectively, have 15 points in 13 matches. Should they lose their last league game and Royal Challengers Bangalore and/or MI win their last league game, they will be pushed further below. And not only their Top 2 chances will go up in smoke, but they could also be eliminated from the playoffs totally.

RR, KKR, and PBKS are all on 12 points in 13 matches. So this victory of Challengers Bangalore has also dented their chances greatly since they can only get to 14 points at maximum while both Royal Challengers Bangalore  and MI can reach 16 points. So even if RR, KKR, and PBKS reach 14 points, they would stand eliminated if one or both of Royal Challengers Bangalore and MI win their last match.

IPL Playoff Qualification chances after #SRHvRCB match:

Gujarat – Q
Lucknow – 93%
Chennai – 91%
Mumbai – 56%
Bangalore – 50%
Rajasthan – 6%
Punjab – 2%
Kolkata – 2%
