Former Rajasthan Royals’ captain Steve Smith recently sent social media into a frenzy after he announced his participation in the upcoming 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. Smith joined Star Sports’ expert panel for IPL 2023.
Steve, who recently guided the Australian cricket team to a famous ODI series win against India, also revealed his top four IPL teams ahead of the upcoming 2023 season.
Steve Smith Named His Top 4 For IPL 2023

In a conversation with Star Sports, Smith picked four-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK), with defending champions Gujarat Titans as his two top picks. Last year’s newcomers Lucknow Super Giants was his third choice, while Sunrisers Hyderabad concluded his top four.
Steve Smith’s last appearance in the Indian Premier League came for Delhi Capitals in 2021 under Rishabh Pant‘s captaincy, where he scored 152 runs off 8 games for the Delhi-based franchise. He later went unsold in the 2022 IPL auction. Notably, Smith did not participate in the mini-player auction that was held in Kochi in December 2022.
While Smith’s batting exploits will be missed badly in the upcoming edition of the IPL, he will be seen in a new avatar in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Smith will keep the fans entertained with his invaluable insights.
He also talked about his new role as a commentator ahead of the new season. He said:
“I think I read the game pretty well so hopefully there will be some good insights for all the people watching IPL out there. I’m certainly excited about joining the Star Sports Team and I’m looking forward to this new experience,”
Meanwhile, the much-awaited 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League will kickstart from March 31st with an opening clash between four-times IPL champs Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
