Uthappa also emphasized Gill’s growing leadership skills, suggesting that he has the potential to lead the national team in the future. He said:

“Yeah, I think he’s a gift for Indian cricket. I think he’s some who’s maturing into an all time great within the Indian cricket fraternity. During the discussion about his innings of 35, Uthappa remarked that Shubman Gill, as the GT skipper, approached the game with the correct mindset. However, he expressed the opinion that Gill could benefit from having a partner who plays aggressively at the other end.

Uthappa noted that Gill was dismissed while attempting to increase the run rate, suggesting that Sai Sudharsan might evolve into an aggressive batter in the future to provide support to the GT skipper.

“Great innings. I thought he went about his innings the right way because it’s important for him to bat through the course of the innings for GT to get success, so he approached it in that fashion. He needed someone to play a little bit more aggressively at the end and take off pressure from him so that he could play that.”

He added:

“So, when he went to up the ante is when he got out. He didn’t need to do that. Sai Sudarshan could have done it. But you know, I think that Sai Sudarsan transition into upping his strike rate also will happen in due time. And when that happens, I think that combination will be great,” said Uthappa.

Gujarat Titans will be next seen in action against Delhi Capitals on April 24th in Delhi.
