Harsha Bhogle Hailed Gautam Gambhir: KKR’s bowling all-rounder Sunil Narine has successfully revived his career with the bat in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He showcased his batting prowess once more against the Rajasthan Royals by scoring his first-ever IPL century in just 49 deliveries.
After his remarkable innings, Narine was questioned about his chances in the race for the orange cap. Currently, he sits third in the run-scoring leaderboard for the season, amassing 361 runs at an impressive average of 72.2 and a striking rate of 147.35.
Narine gave credit to Gambhir for giving him the confidence to open for KKR. He said:
“(At the start of the season if anyone had told him he’d be in the race for the Orange cap) I would have taken it as a joke because I haven’t opened in such a long time or done much with the bat in the years past. (Opening this year) With GG (Gambhir) coming back, he gave me the confidence and his assurance that I’ll open the batting.”
Narine shared his mindset, emphasizing his focus on giving his team strong starts during the powerplay. He highlighted the importance of capitalizing on the early overs to avoid pressure in the latter part of the innings. He said:
“(Mindset) The job is just to go out there and try to give a good start, whatever the situation is, still keep going because if you try to face dot balls in the powerplay, it could hurt you in the backend. So just go there and try to give your team a good start. “
Harsha Bhogle Hailed Gautam Gambhir After Sunil Narine’s Century
Meanwhile, Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle was quick to react to the statement of Sunil Narine. He took to his social media and praised Gautam Gambhir and KKR management for the way they have managed the talent in their team. He wrote:
“So Sunil Narine credits Gautam Gambhir with giving him the confidence to go back to the top of the order. More proof that the IPL is not as much about coaching as it is about managing talent.”
