Mumbai Indians have received a big blow ahead of the upcoming 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League as Suryakumar Yadav might miss the first two games of the season. According to a report by PTI, it is learned that the sensational batter could be in a race against time to get fit by the first match of the upcoming season.
It has to be noted that SKY has been out of action since December 2023 as the batter injured his ankle during the T20I series against South Africa. SKY was then ruled out of the series along with the T20I series against Afghanistan in January.
Apart from getting treated for the ankle injury, SKY also underwent surgery for the Sports hernia and since then he has been away from all the cricketing actions. SKY is now expected to make a comeback through the upcoming Indian Premier League for his team Mumbai Indians.
Suryakumar Yadav To Miss First Two Games For Mumbai Indians
Suryakumar Yadav is currently undergoing rigorous training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Recent footage shows him batting in the nets and participating in outdoor drills alongside Arshdeep Singh. With the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League just around the corner, there’s speculation about Yadav’s fitness ahead of the tournament. His presence will be crucial for the franchise’s success, and his timely recovery is imperative for their title aspirations.
A BCCI source disclosed that Suryakumar Yadav’s rehabilitation progress is proceeding as planned, and he is expected to return to action in the league. However, the batter has not yet received clearance to participate in the first two games of the tournament.
Speaking to PTI, the source revealed: “Surya’s rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly ‘Return to Play’ in the IPL itself. However, it is still not clear whether the NCA’s Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27).”
Furthermore, the BCCI source highlighted that with 12 days still to go for the Mumbai Indians’ first game, SKY could be against the race against time to get fit. The source added:
“There are still 12 days to go before MI play their first game but it could be a race against time to get fit by the first match itself.”
Suryakumar Yadav’s presence will be pivotal for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL season. His exceptional cricketing skills have been unmatched in recent seasons. Under the leadership of newly appointed captain Hardik Pandya, Yadav’s role becomes even more significant.
The IPL 2024 kicks off on March 22, and Mumbai Indians will face Gujarat Giants in their first match on March 24. Whether Yadav will be fit for this game remains uncertain.
