IPL 2024 - 'I Want To Go Out There And Hit A Six On My First Ball': Sanju Samson On His Approach

Regardless of his form or match situation, Sanju Samson wants to play with only an ultra-aggressive mindset in IPL and T20 cricket. Ahead of the start of the IPL 2024 season, where he will be leading the Rajasthan Royals for the fourth season in a row, the Kerala batsman opened up on his no-holds-barred approach in the shortest format.

Sanju Samson is one of the few high-profile players in the country who bat with high intent right from the start of their innings, and want to put pressure on the bowlers and the opposition captain straightaway.

The 29-year-old stands at a crucial juncture of his career right now. With the T20 World Cup 2024 to follow immediately after the IPL 2024, Samson is in contention for the keeper and middle-order role, competing with Jitesh Sharma for now, but Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan, too, could be in the fray.

That’s a shift in the mindset that I had: Sanju Samson

While often players who are in the national team contention take the conservative route to boost their averages in the IPL, Sanju Samson is not going to change his approach for any reason.

Speaking with Star Sports, Samson spoke about batting without any clutter in his mind, and why he bats the way he does.

Samson said, “I just wanted to create my own style of batting and no matter even if it was the first ball, I just want to go out there and hit a six.

“So, that’s a shift in the mindset that I had and I just wanted to do something different like why do we have to wait for 10 balls to hit a six? If I feel like I do it at the first ball and that was the motive behind the development of my power stroke I was putting lots and lots of effort and time and I think a lot of people helped me, lots of things goes behind the scenes which only I only know and my close people know.

“So I’m very happy that things are coming on nice and as you know the grind keeps on going. Actually, I’m never satisfied I want to keep on and go on doing something spectacular for the side I play for,” he added.
