In the Super 4 round of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, India romped Pakistan in Colombo with as convincing and emphatic a victory as anyone would have hoped for.

The match that spread across two days, on Sunday and Monday at the R.Premadasa Stadium, saw India emerge victorious by a massive margin of 228 runs.

Every Indian player who got the opportunity showcased his skills and abilities. Captain Rohit Sharma (56 runs off 49 balls) and Shubman Gill (58 off 52) scored fifties in their 121-run opening stand. After that, it was the Virat Kohli (122* off 94) and KL Rahul (111* off 106) show as they plundered big runs and boundaries in their behemoth partnership of 233* runs in 194 balls, taking India’s total to 356/2.

With the ball, then, Jasprit Bumran and Mohammed Siraj didn’t give away any inch to the Pakistani top-order batters before Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur made strikes. Kuldeep Yadav then also hogged the limelight with a five-wicket haul, only his second in 84 ODIs.

This Indian victory, and the massive size of it, led to a flurry of memes from the Indian fans who trolled the Pakistani team and its fans on social media.

Amid all this, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan also took a brutal, funny dig at the Pakistani fans, once again bringing out his ‘padosi’ tweet.

“Khamoshi chaai hui hai kaafi. lagta hai padosiyo ne Tv ke sath sath mobile bhi tod diye hai,” Irfan Pathan tweeted.

This tweet from Irfan Pathan went viral in quick time and it has already received over 80k likes and more than 2 million impressions.

This 228-run loss was the second biggest loss, by runs, that Pakistan have faced in ODIs, just behind the 234-run loss vs Sri Lanka in Lahore in 2009. This is the 4th biggest victory for India in ODIs.

Biggest victory for India in ODIs (in runs):

317 vs Sri Lanka, Trivandrum, 2023*
257 vs Bermuda, Port of Spain, 2007
256 vs Hongkong, Karachi, 2008
228 vs Pakistan, Colombo (RPS), 2023*

Meanwhile, India will have to rock up once again on Tuesday as they face Sri Lanka at the same venue. A win for India today will all but seal their spot in the final.
