Jasprit Bumrah

India’s sensational pacer Jasprit Bumrah‘s absence has left team India and Mumbai Indians fans disappointed. The 29-year-old pacer has been out of action since September 2022 because of his back injury.

As per sources, Bumrah might also get ruled out of the upcoming 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League as he may undergo back surgery to fully recover from the problem.

For back surgery, Jasprit Bumrah has traveled to New Zealand. Bumrah will undergo surgery next week under the care of Dr. Rowan Schouten after delaying it for months. Together with Shane Bond, Jofra Archer was another patient of the Kiwi physician.

However, Bumrah will require three to four months to recover, and it will take some time before it can resume operations. Bumrah is working against the clock to be ready for the 2023 World Cup.

The BCCI administrators had hoped that the Indian star would be available for the World T20 Final starting on June 7 at The Oval, but the most recent information indicates that India would have to wait a while for Bumrah’s return. Bumrah might join the team before the 50-over World Cup, which India is slated to host later this year, based on the anticipated time frame of his return.

“Jasprit Bumrah left for New Zealand five days ago to undergo back surgery. After doctors advised Bumrah to undergo surgery, BCCI immediately made all the arrangements and sent him. The surgery will be carried out in a day or two,” Sports Tak quoted a BCCI source as saying.

Bumrah would supposedly need four weeks to recover his footing. Yet it takes longer to recover. Following his recuperation, he will start a difficult rehabilitation process that could last three to five months.

“It is difficult to set a return date. Once he recovers from surgery, he will undergo a rehab and only when the rehab ends, we will know when he can come back,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport earlier.
