Is there a rift between Jasprit Bumrah and Mumbai Indians? Is the fast bowler not happy with MI trading in Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans?
A day after Hardik Pandya’s trade to MI was officially confirmed, Jasprit Bumrah put a cryptic Instagram story, which led to the fans wondering whether the fast bowler is unhappy with Mumbai Indians getting Pandya back.
After two successful seasons at Gujarat Titans, Hardik has returned to MI. Apart from the handsome chunk of the transfer fee he will get, it is believed Hardik’s main motivation to return to Mumbai was the captaincy once Rohit Sharma steps down.
Jasprit Bumrah, who has captained India in a Test match and a few T20Is, would have also been in the conversation of being the heir to Rohit Sharma’s captaincy position; so would have been Suryakumar Yadav. SKY captained Mumbai in one match in IPL 2023 when Rohit was unavailable, and he is currently leading India in the T20I series against Australia.
But with Hardik Pandya, who is already the Indian white-ball vice-captain, returning to MI, it’s apparent that he will captain Mumbai once Rohit decides to step down as the skipper whether in IPL 2024 or after that.

Here’s how the fans reacted:
Akash Ambani, the Mumbai Indians owner, said: “Seeing Hardik back at Mumbai Indians makes me very happy. It is a happy homecoming. He provides great balance to any team he plays. Hardik’s first stint with the MI family was hugely successful, and we hope he achieves even more success in his second stint.”
