Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal extended his support towards Shubman Gill after his controversial dismissal in the ongoing World Test Championship Final 2023 at the Kennington Oval. Day 4 of the ongoing WTC Final 2023 ended on a controversial note as Cameron Green’s catch to dismiss Shubman Gill sparked massive controversy and started a full-fledged debate on the topic.
Kamran Akmal Took A Stand For Shubman Gill

The controversy erupted during the eighth over of India’s record 444-run chase when Australia seamer Scott Boland found Gill’s outside edge and Cameron Green lumped to his right side to hold onto the ball at 3rd slip. Gill was caught by Cameron Green at slip-off Scott Boland. The catch sparked off a controversy as TV replays seemed to suggest that it had been grassed but the third umpire ruled the decision in favor of Australia.
Meanwhile, Gill’s controversial dismissal started a debate on social media, with several former cricketers and experts joining the debate. Among many, former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal also took to his social media and extended his support to Shubman Gill.
In his Tweet, Akmal criticized the decision of the third umpire and wrote:
“Shocking Decision by the third umpire..It wasn’t a clear catch of @ShubmanGill.”

However, coming out in support of an Indian cricketer has led people of his own country to troll and criticize Kamran. Pakistani fans didn’t like his statement in support of the Indian opener Shubman Gill and started trolling him online.

Cameron Green’s Take On The Controversial Catch
While the reaction of Gill and all the Indian supporters are quite natural and justifiable, Cameron Green was probably the only person who gave the best and the most accurate take on the controversial catch. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Green said:
“At the time I definitely thought I caught it,” Green said. “I think in the heat of the moment, I thought it was clean and threw it up and showed no sign of any doubt. And then it’s left up to the third umpire (Kettleborough) and he agreed.”
